YouTube VS TikTok

As the counter charges being exchanged between creators of YouTube and TikTok. I thought, I should really make a comparison blog between features and the usability of both. So, let’s do real YouTube vs TikTok. Do scroll through the end once, there is humor waiting for you.

Disclaimer

There is no roasting or related stuff here. I am just giving fair judgement on the technical stuff. Both apps are common and different in different ways.

1. Interface

a. YouTube interface

You get a bunch of options to do different things on YouTube. You get a home page where you get customized suggestions depending upon your previous activities. Then you have a subscription tab where all the videos and posts of your subscribed channels are being updated. You have a notifications tab and a library tab where the playlists, liked videos and downloads can be viewed. I would say this easy to understand. It is  quite certain and predictable.

b.TikTok interface

It is quite different from youtube. TikTok has an ongoing player which starts playing when you open the app. You scroll to move to the next video. You have like, comment and share buttons on the right hand side corner. You have a search tab where you see trending hashtags and as usual you can search as well. Then you have a messages section where you can chat.

So, which is better?

Well there cannot be an answer to this question because both apps are designed to show different kinds of videos. TikTok allows a maximum duration of a video to be 1 minute long. While there is no such limit in YouTube. So, youtube cannot play a video from the moment you start the app. It is just impractical.

2. Creator’s options

  1. Youtube

In the original youtube app you do not really get a whole bunch of tools to really edit your videos. Yes, you do get some filters but that is not enough. I know youtube has a more specialized app youtube studio which provides copyright free audio more editing options and whole analysis of your channel. But, as far as the original youtube app is concerned it does not offer these options.

  1. TikTok

TikTok is quite sufficient in the kind of videos it offers to publish i.e. short videos. You get a powerful in app editor for your videos. Yes many of you can argue on this fact but it is true. Those beautification filters are not easy to incorporate in such a mobile application. Many other accessible tools such as video trimmer. In app sound and music options makes it complete.

So, which is better?

It is so far clear that due to static in app powerful video editing options TikTok takes the lead.

3. Video Controls

  1. YouTube

For watching videos on YouTube you get a lot of controls. By the way, in my opinion the most important one is the option to control the quality of video you watch. In most of the countries the internet is not quite affordable. So, people tend to save data. Therefore, people need such options. YouTube also provides options for closed captions and even auto-translates it to different languages so video reaches a large group of audience. Other than that it has an option to control video’s playing speed.

  1. TikTok

TikTok takes this differently though. It wants its users to watch the complete videos. So, as a strategy it does not give the video controlling power to its users. Even the basic move forward and move backward is not included. Think it like this way if you missed something in the video you will have to watch the complete video again from the beginning.

So, which is better?

As you can see due to more video control options on YouTube. YouTube gets a point as well.

4. Extra features

  1. YouTube

YouTube kids is a very useful feature if you have a small child in your house. It provides filtered content for kids from where they can learn and enjoy as well.

  1. TikTok

TikTok has a messaging tab where you can actually chat. So, when you are watching videos you can also chat with your loved ones in the same app.

So, which is better?

I would go for TikTok because messaging is quite useful stuff if you get some business going through TikTok videos.

5. Money making

  1. TikTok

Technically there is only one way that you can make money on TikTok. That is through live streams you can earn tips from the viewers. Another thing is that live streams do not get active before you have more than 1000 followers. TikTok is a new platform that can introduce more money making options later.

Other ways of making money are getting sponsored , selling your own merchandise or you can promote your viewers to follow you on other better money making platforms.

  1. YouTube

YouTube has a whole bunch of money making opportunities including those discussed in TikTok. You can connect your google adsense account with your channel and then you can get a whole bunch of options. For example, You can put an ad on any point of the video and you can also use multiple ads. You can also display a static ad below your video. Whenever people click on these ads you get a small amount of money from it.

As discussed above you also have a join button that adds as well. Youtube has a join button for its famous channels that the creators can enable in their channel to earn some extra money and provide some extra benefits to those users who do tend to join. This is a game changer if you think about it economically.

So, which is better?

In this case it is quite clear that youtube is going to give you more profit if your channel becomes successful which  actually takes some time but is not hard at all.

At the end Enjoy this meme if you get it.
